Climate Risk Reports

Understand what's in every ClimateNest report — what we analyse, how we score risk, and how to interpret the results.

What's in a ClimateNest Report?

Each ClimateNest report is Australia's leading actuarial engine for residential real estate. We don't just find environmental problems; we calculate their impact on your net wealth. Our ClimateNest Index™ assesses 8 climate hazards — flood, bushfire, heat, coastal erosion, wind, storm, social vulnerability, and energy — delivering a comprehensive 0–100 risk score for every property. All scores are calculated deterministically from official government data sources (BOM, CSIRO, Geoscience Australia, ABS, state fire services).

Reports cover eight canonical climate risk categories, each scored from 0–100. The ClimateNest Index (CNI) is your primary composite score — a weighted summary of all hazard dimensions that lets you compare properties at a glance. Every report includes a plain-English summary, Financial Impact analysis where supported, and Recommended Actions tailored to the identified risks.

Risk Categories

🌊
Flood Risk

Riverine and surface water flood analysis using Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) flood mapping data, historical flood event records, and terrain modelling.

🔥
Bushfire Risk

Vegetation proximity, McArthur Fire Danger Rating, fire weather index, and historical fire footprint data from state fire authorities.

🌡️
Heat Stress

Projected number of days above 35°C by 2050 and 2080, urban heat island effect modelling, and thermal comfort analysis.

🏖️
Coastal Erosion

Sea level rise projections from IPCC AR6, shoreline recession rates, storm surge modelling, and distance to coastline analysis.

🌀
Wind Hazard

Wind speed exceedance probabilities, projected changes in extreme wind under climate scenarios, and structural vulnerability analysis.

⛈️
Storm Risk

Projected storm intensity and frequency under climate change scenarios, hail and severe thunderstorm exposure modelling.

🤝
Social Stability

Community resilience indicators, socioeconomic vulnerability, access to services, and neighbourhood stability trends from ABS census data.

Energy Resilience

Energy infrastructure proximity, grid reliability projections, renewable adoption trends, and energy cost exposure analysis.

Risk Scoring

Each risk category is scored on a 0–100 scale. An overall composite score is computed as a weighted average of all category scores, reflecting the combined risk profile of the property.

Minimal0–16

Negligible risk. No action required.

Low17–33

Low risk. Monitor and maintain awareness.

Moderate34–50

Moderate risk. Consider mitigation steps.

Elevated51–66

Elevated risk. Active mitigation recommended.

High67–83

High risk. Urgent professional consultation advised.

Severe84–100

Severe risk. Avoid or seek expert remediation.

Financial Impact

Where supported by available data, each report includes a Financial Impact section estimating the potential cost implications of identified climate risks — including indicative insurance premium adjustments, property value exposure, and maintenance cost projections. This is modelled guidance only and does not constitute financial or valuation advice.

Recommended Actions

Each report includes a set of Recommended Actions — practical, prioritised mitigation insights tailored to the identified risks. These may include suggestions to consult specialists (flood engineers, bushfire consultants), review insurance options, investigate council planning overlays, or undertake specific due diligence before purchasing. Recommendations are decision support, not professional advice.
